My little lady has been poorly...

It's been a scary few days here.  Felix has had a bad cough all week, which was diagnosed as a virus on Wednesday.  On Friday afternoon her breathing got much worse so we took her back to the doctors.  He sent us straight to the hospital where we spent a long and worrying evening with chest X-rays and nebulisers and antibiotics.

It turns out it was a nasty virus with possible signs of a chest infection, but fortunately she responded well to all the treatments and Saturday morning was spent running around the ward eating the nurses' Quality Street (like mother like daughter!)

We got to come home on Saturday, and have had a quiet time, so hopefully (everything crossed here) she's well on the mend now.

As you may imagine, my sewing mojo has completely left the building, but I do need to ask for some advice as I have a swap item to finish this week..

Remember my powerpoint designs?

Well, I turned the two on the left into reality...

and for my partner think I'm going to stick with the first option, the random squares in orange, green and turquoise on linen.

The only thing is, I have no ideas on how to quilt it.  I don't own any hand-quilting thread, and have never hand quilted before, so I think that's out...so machine quilting-wise..what would you do?

Without my mojo, I'm stumped so your thoughts would be very much appreciated

Liberty lady...

I stopped all other sewing yesterday to make a present for Izzy, who's first birthday it is today, and who's party we went to earlier.

Izzy is a classy one year old, so the average present just wouldn't do....

I knew which fabric I was going to use straight away, some of the precious Liberty print that was part of "the best Christmas present in recent history" from my Aunty Jane.  Izzy wears cute prints and cardigans so I decided on a sleeveless top. I couldn't find any decent (simple!) patterns so I kind of made one up by tracing round a top of Felix's and cutting the sleeves off. I added a basic box pleat at the front and a vintage narrow bias binding (charity shop bargain 10p!).

It fits Felix perfectly, but darn it, the child wouldn't model for me, so this is the best picture I could get!

And here are Izzy and Felix at the party....and yes that is some kind of food stuck to Felix's foot, she's a classy lady too!

Time off

My trusty Husqvarna and I have been having some quality time apart this week.  It's just so lovely here in Hastings at the moment, and I was a bit "sewn out" after last week, so we've done a bit of this:

and a bit of this:

and of course a bit of this:

(Brit Bee ladies, I thought since we were sharing photos I'd show you some of the lovely James, since you already know what Felix and I look like!)

Not the sewing machine has had a complete holiday, I had some fun making Susan's Drunkards Path blocks:

I may be being daft, but I seem to have missed why this lovely pattern is called Drunkards path...can anyone enlighten me?

And I'm trying out some designs for handbag mirrors with cases.  I bought the machine and the kit to make 250 of the things when I was 35 weeks pregnant and slightly hormonal!  I thought I might cover them in vintage fabric scraps, and make little cases like the one below for selling at the craft fair in November, but I'm still not sold on the design - it's fiddly to do the lining and I'm struggling with witty phrases to add to the front.  James vetoed my suggestion of "Have I got spinach in my teeth??" saying no one would buy it!

Any ideas?  I also thought maybe adding a ribbon with a keyring?

Oh and finally, I left my computer alone for a second and it oddly found it's way to Whipstitch fabrics and ordered me a pile of nifty fabrics - how clever is that? :)
